Sport and Recreation Minister John Kobelke has welcomed the appointment of David Etherton as the Western Australian Sports Centre Trust’s new chief executive officer.
Mr Etherton joins the Trust from the WA Tourism Commission and will commence his new role on February 4, 2008.
Mr Kobelke said the Sports Centre Trust had undertaken a good deal of positive work in managing WA’s premier sports and entertainment facilities and a key to its success had been the contribution of outgoing chief executive Graham Moss.
“I wish to acknowledge and thank Graham for his outstanding service to the Trust for the past 18 years,” the Minister said.
He said the Trust faced a number of challenges, including the construction of major new facilities.
A 2006 review recommended an upgrade of the Trust and in March this year, the Minister appointed a revamped board, chaired by Graham Partridge, to provide a new strategic direction.
The WASCT manages more than 100 million dollars of State Government-owned sporting and entertainment facilities, currently consisting of Challenge Stadium, Arena Joondalup, Perth Motorplex and Midland Speed Dome.
