    23/11/2007 5:45 PM

    Local Government Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich today paid tribute to the role played by local government lifeguards at the inaugural Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Lifeguard Pool Challenge.

    The RLSS - WALGA Lifeguard Pool Challenge is an event specifically for local government lifeguards to recognise their skills and training and also to acknowledge their valuable contribution to communities.

    Nine teams participated in this year’s event, including:
    • City of Bayswater;
    • City of Fremantle;
    • City of Gosnells;
    • City of Joondalup;
    • Town of Kwinana;
    • City of Mandurah;
    • City of Melville;
    • City of Swan; and
    • Town of Vincent.
    “An event such as this highlights the diverse role and contribution local governments make to our communities,” Ms Ravlich said.

    “Such diversity shows the enormous range of community responsibilities shouldered by our local governments across the State.

    “I congratulate all the teams competing in this year’s Lifeguard Challenge and look forward to seeing more local government lifeguards participating in the years to come.”

    The Minister congratulated the Royal Life Saving Society and the Western Australian Local Government Association for providing an event at which the importance of pool lifeguards could be recognised and celebrated.
