Regional Development Minister Jon Ford today announced that the Shire of Murray had received a cheque for $275,000 to support the development of 17 industrial lots in Stage One of the new Pinjarra Industrial Estate.

The grant was provided through the State Government’s Regional Headworks Program and would assist with the costs of extending power to the site.

Mr Ford said the Shire of Murray was working in partnership with LandCorp to develop 90ha of land to create approximately 40 lots for light and general industry. Stage One would see the release of 17 lots.

“The successful establishment of the new industrial area will ensure that not only are people in this region provided with a range of services, but that significant employment opportunities will result,” he said.

In presenting the cheque today, South-West MLC Sally Talbot said up to 20 positions would be created during the construction phase of the estate.

“Once the lots are fully tenanted, over 200 ongoing employment positions could be created,” Dr Talbot said.

“Developing employment opportunities like this is a great achievement for any regional community.”

The Minister said it was expected that pre-sales would start in late 2007. He said a number of inquiries had already been received from business owners and developers considering locating within the estate.

“The lots will ideally suit businesses requiring factory or workshop space such as engineering firms, panel beating operators and other similar industries,” he said.

Mr Ford said that the grant was part of the State Government’s commitment to encourage and promote sustainable development in regional Western Australia by helping to reduce headwork costs.
