$2million State Government funding for regional airport improvements

    12/09/2007 3:19 PM

Local governments and other airport operators in regional Western Australia could be eligible for a share of $2million for infrastructure improvements and planning.

Acting Planning and Infrastructure Minister Jon Ford has invited submissions for the 2008-09 Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS) funding round.

“This scheme provides regional airport operators with up to half the total cost of projects that develop airport infrastructure, maintain aircraft movement areas, or enhance airport planning,” Mr Ford said.

“Projects such as installing runway lighting, airstrip upgrades, improving passenger facilities or planning for expansion could be eligible.

“Sometimes these improvements are necessary to cater for airborne medical evacuation services, or attract tourist flights.

“For many communities in our vast State, good quality airports are important in creating opportunities for business and employment and a better quality of life.

“The State Government spends more money than any other State in Australia to support its regional airports.”

The RADS 2008-09 submission period closes on Friday, October 12, 2007.
