    22/08/2007 1:31 PM

    The Friends of Kings Park today received a Lotterywest grant to help stage the 2007 Kings Park Festival.

    Building on the 42-year history of the successful Wildflower Festival, this year’s event has expanded from one week to one month and will run from September 1 to October 1. There will be events taking place throughout the park for people of all ages to enjoy.

    Government Enterprises Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich announced the $100,000 Lotterywest grant at Kings Park and said the funding would enable a bigger range of events that would appeal to all Western Australians.

    The Lotterywest grant will be used towards equipment hire, advertising and performers costs for the:
    • Grannies and Gramps Gardening Gumboots Day on September 9;
    • Djilba Bush Life experience on September 16; and
    • Wild Fairyland Festival on September 23.
    With over 70 events taking place throughout the month, the community will be able to enjoy activities ranging from wildflower displays to gardening workshops, guided walks and entertainment.

    The festival will showcase spectacular displays of WA wildflowers, with over 27,000 wildflowers in full bloom across 17ha of gardens throughout the park.

    “This is set to be a magnificent event, providing the opportunity for the community to celebrate and appreciate the State’s unique flora,” Ms Ravlich said.
