Regional Development Minister Jon Ford, today presented the Lake Clifton Progress and Sporting Association with a $10,027 cheque to support further improvements to the Lake Clifton Community Centre.

The grant is provided through the State Government’s Regional Headworks Program and will assist with the cost of upgrading the power supply to the centre.

Mr Ford said the centre, which opened in late 2004, provided a range of much needed community services including sporting, health and children’s facilities.

“The proposed power upgrade will allow for air-conditioning to be installed and the establishment of external lighting over the existing tennis and basketball courts and the children’s playground,” he said.

“This upgrade will ensure greater use of the centre’s facilities, particularly in the evenings, and make it more appealing for business and private functions.”

The Regional Headworks Program is part of the Carpenter Government’s $80million Regional Investment Fund. Grants of between $5,000 and $200,000 are available to help offset the costs of providing essential (headworks) services.

“The Carpenter Government is committed to building stronger communities by investing in community infrastructure that will pay social dividends for years to come,” the Minister said.

“I congratulate the Lake Clifton community on recognising this great opportunity to improve local facilities.”
