Residents and visitors to Cunderdin would be impressed by the new services offered by the Cunderdin museum, Regional Development Minister Jon Ford said today.

Mr Ford said a State Government grant of $317,000 had enabled the museum to be revitalised with a new visitor information centre and high quality interpretive displays.

“The museum is one of the major destinations along the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail and is a fascinating component of the historic Goldfields Water Supply Scheme,” he said.

"The State Government is pleased to support the project by providing funds from its Regional Investment Fund (RIF).

“The $80million RIF fund was established to help the economic and social development of the regions and to improve access to services by regional communities.”

The museum is a well-established attraction, having operated for more than 30 years. It provides a significant collection of agricultural machinery, which emphasises the special conditions and achievements of dry land farming in the central Wheatbelt environment of Western Australia.

The Minister said the museum was housed in the ‘No. 3 pumping station’, a landmark component of the much lauded Goldfields water supply scheme and the golden pipeline heritage trail.

“The pumping stations were purpose designed and are a building type unique to Australia and the world - this building is one of only three pumping stations which survived relatively intact,” Mr Ford said.

“This is an excellent example of the Carpenter Government and the community working together to preserve historic icons.”

The $317,000 funding is in addition to a Lotterywest grant of $70,000 previously provided for the construction of the museum’s Lifestyle Pavilion, which increased the area available for machinery display.
