Perth's 6EBA FM supports domestic violence prevention

An innovative radio program featuring interviews, opinions and information on family and domestic violence issues for culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) women will debut next week on Perth’s 6EBA FM.

‘Many Women’s Voices’ is a collaboration between the Multicultural Women’s Advocacy Service and the Family and Domestic Violence Unit and begins its six-week airing on Wednesday June 6.

Communities Minister Sue Ellery has welcomed the new initiative which aims to identify the barriers which often prevent CaLD women from accessing help, and will provide information on support services and legal matters relating to family and domestic violence.

“The Carpenter Government is proud to support community organisations in addressing family conflict issues and this is a fantastic opportunity to reach members of the multicultural community on an issue that is of great concern to all Western Australians,” Ms Ellery said.

“Some of the women involved will be sharing their personal stories and I commend them for having the courage to do this, and for potentially making a difference to others in similar situations.

“Guests from the domestic violence support sector will assist in the vital task of letting families and communities know about their legal right to safety, and about support services that can help.”

As part of the hour-long segments, messages with useful/or relevant contact numbers will be played in English and in each guests’ first language including Afghani, Croatian, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Romanian and Serbian.
