Funding boost for Shark Lake Industrial Park development

    5/03/2007 10:07 AM

Regional Development Minister Jon Ford today announced a $50,000 Regional Headworks grant to the Shire of Esperance, to assist in developing infrastructure required to establish the Shark Lake Industrial Park in Esperance.

“Shark Lake Industrial Park, a joint Shire of Esperance and Esperance Port Authority initiative, will play a vital role in attracting and servicing industries flowing into the Esperance area,” Mr Ford said.

“Companies from the mining, agricultural and industrial sectors which use the region’s port facilities have already expressed interest in locating to Shark Lake Park.

“Once the park is fully operational, up to 500 jobs are expected to be created.”

The Regional Headworks Program, which is part of the Carpenter Government’s $80million Regional Investment Fund, provides grants of between $5,000 and $200,000 for commercial and industrial projects in regional Western Australia. This will help offset the costs of providing essential (headworks) services in regional communities.

The program aims to strengthen and sustain regional economies by attracting investment and increasing job opportunities through supporting the expansion of existing, or creation of new, industrial or commercial activity.

In addition, projects that demonstrate positive social or environmental outcomes may be considered for funding.

Individual businesses, business groups, local government, community and not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to apply.
