Leading international and Australian experts will meet in Perth next week to discuss how alternative transport energies could help reduce the impact of rising fuel costs and global warming.

The 2006 Alternative Transport Energies Conference, at Burswood Convention Centre from September 10 to 13, will host speakers from the United States, Europe and Asia.

Acting Planning and Infrastructure Minister Tony McRae said with petrol prices continuing to rise and growing concerns about global warming, the time was right to consider alternative fuels and new technologies.

“Australian policymakers will hear from leading international government and industry speakers, as they bring their insights and experience in alternative transport energies to Perth,” Mr McRae said.

The acting Minister said the conference was privileged to have secured Dr Alan Lloyd, former secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency and chairman of the California Air Resources Board, as the keynote speaker.

“Dr Lloyd will share his experience in agencies responsible for driving some of the strictest clean energy regulations in the world,” Mr McRae said.

The conference is one of a series of international events and the second to be hosted by the State Government and organised by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure.

The Alternative Transport Energies Conference will be held at Burswood International Resort from September 10 to 13.
