    South-West Minister Norm Marlborough today launched a free counselling service to help improve the performance of the South-West’s not-for-profit clubs and organisations.

    “This service will provide an extra level of support for those community organisations that could benefit from sound business and management advice,” Mr Marlborough said.

    The program, called ‘Club Doctors’, is an initiative of Rotary International, funded by the South West Development Commission.

    Community clubs will be able to draw on expert advice in the areas of:
    • future planning and growth programs;
    • managing the organisation;
    • running meetings;
    • volunteer recruitment;
    • conflict resolution;
    • finance matters; and
    • fundraising.
    The service will be offered by volunteer counsellors experienced in their fields and is aimed at improving the effectiveness of community organisations.

    A trial service has been established by the Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault and is supported by the Rotary Clubs of Bunbury Central, Bunbury and South Bunbury.

    “In Australia, one in three people give their time, and volunteers in Western Australia alone contribute more than $800million a year to the local labour market,” the Minister said.

    “Club Doctors recognises this contribution and aims to provide an extra level of support.

    “Rotary is to be congratulated on the initiative, which we expect will be picked up by Rotary Clubs in other districts.”

    The service is available to office-bearers who can phone the Club Doctors hotline on 9791 4611 during business hours to set up an appointment with an expert counsellor.

    The commission has committed $15,000 to enable the project to be trialled and delivered in the Greater Bunbury Region for one year.
