South-West Minister Norm Marlborough presented a cheque for $16,500 to Boyup Brook Shire today to kick-start the development of a light industrial area in the town.

With the support of the South-West Development Commission, the money will initially be used to conduct planning and survey works at the site.

“Availability of suitable industrial land will attract businesses into Boyup Brook, and help fuel growth,” Mr Marlborough said.

“The State Government is committed to building opportunities for economic development, and job creation throughout the South-West.”

The Shire of Boyup Brook, in partnership with the State, recognised the long-term benefits of providing competitive land infrastructure which would attract people to the town.

“Provision of suitable land for small and medium enterprise is a vital component in attracting new business and creating a platform for existing business to grow,” the Minister said.

Development of industrial land in the South-West went hand-in-hand with the commission’s ‘Business Relocation Strategy’, which was looking to attract Perth-based businesses to relocate into the region.

“By attracting investment into towns like Boyup Brook we aim to generate jobs and create a prosperous environment for the community,” South-West Development Commission chief executive officer Don Punch said.
