    Community projects in the Shire of Boddington, which have been given Regional Development Scheme funding, will support expected growth in the town as a result of the expansion of the Boddington Gold Mine.

    “This is a fantastic opportunity for all those who live in the area,” South-West Minister Norm Marlborough said.

    “The Boddington Gold Mine expansion is estimated to bring about $40million a year to the Peel Region’s economy.

    “The economic and community benefits for the town will be huge with the workforce of more than 1,000 people required during construction and about 650 permanent workers.

    “It will also add $410million a year to the Western Australian economy.”

    The Minister attended a community lunch to acknowledge the work being done by the Shire of Boddington, Boddington Old School committee and Boddington Youth Centre as a result of this year’s Regional Development Scheme funds including:
    • $10,000 for a youth centre co-ordinator for the Shire of Boddington;
    • $10,000 to provide a part-time co-ordinator to oversee the management of the Boddington Old School facilities including a Rural Transaction Centre, Telecentre, Visitors Centre and training facilities; and
    • $13,000 to support the Shire of Boddington’s management of infrastructure and social needs in response to the expansion of the Boddington Gold Mine.
    “It is always pleasing to see how the State Government’s $80million Regional Investment Fund supports the growth of our regional communities,” the Minister said.

    “Boddington has a terrific future and I am proud to support it and the Peel Region.”

    Mr Marlborough added that the State Government wanted to ensure that the infrastructure in Boddington was able to meet the needs of future growth.

    “This is just another example of how the Carpenter Government is ensuring all of WA receives its fair share,” he said.
