A new facility worth $500,000 will provide a state-of-the-art base for Manjimup’s fire and emergency volunteers.

Emergency Services Minister John D’Orazio today opened the new Manjimup Emergency Services facility in Bath Street, Manjimup.

Mr D’Orazio said more than 100 members of the local Volunteer Bush Fire Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and State Emergency Services would use the facility.

The Minister said the facility would also be used for training exercises by the Manjimup Volunteer Marine Rescue Services and to house the Shire of Manjimup’s fire fighting appliance.

“These organisations provide a vital service in keeping Manjimup and surrounding communities and visitors safe and in responding to local emergencies,” he said.

“Bringing together the various volunteer services, with their diverse knowledge and experience will strengthen the service they provide.

“This impressive, locally built single complex will replace what have been described as ‘broken down old houses’ and give Manjimup’s volunteers a more appropriate base.”

Mr D’Orazio said the State Government had contributed $385,000, the Shire of Manjimup $100,500 and the WA Lotteries Commission $40,000 to enable construction of the facility.
