- Significant jobs growth through Forrestfield-Airport Link
- Crucial development will create vibrant urban centres
The State Government has endorsed a strategy for creating vibrant urban precincts around the new Belmont and Forrestfield train station hubs as part of the $1.96 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project.
There is the potential for more than 22,000 jobs in the new transport nodes which are part of the $1.96 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link project.
Planning Minister Donna Faragher said the jobs, along with 10,000 new homes for an estimated 22,500 people, would be generated through intensive mixed-use development within the station precincts. A further 2,000 jobs would be created during the construction phase.
"This major infrastructure project will deliver significant community benefits, particularly to people living in the eastern suburbs," Mrs Faragher said.
"Not only will it provide a direct rail link with the central business district but it will create vibrant, contemporary urban centres around the new stations, bringing a diverse mix of housing options, business opportunities and thousands of extra jobs to the region.
"Belmont Station will transform into a dynamic retail, commercial and residential precinct, while Forrestfield Station will anchor a new, mixed-use urban centre and multi-modal transit interchange servicing the eastern metropolitan region."
The Minister said the Forrestfield-Airport Link development complemented the State Government's activity centres strategy of focusing future homes and jobs within identified areas with good transport links.
"Importantly, this also aligns with our aim for greater infill in strategic areas such as major transit hubs and identified activity centres to limit sprawl and accommodate 3.5 million people across the Perth and Peel regions by 2050," she said.
