    • 37 community organisations share in $798,442 of community crime prevention grants

Local community safety received a boost today after the Liberal National Government awarded more than $798,000 in crime prevention grants.

Deputy Premier and Police Minister Liza Harvey said 37 community organisations and local governments would receive grants for projects which had significant crime prevention benefits.

"The Liberal National Government has funded several local drug action groups as well as a range of initiatives from native animal rescue to fitness programs," Ms Harvey said.

The Deputy Premier said the organisations had successfully applied for projects that were a high priority for crime prevention initiatives.

"These projects target violence prevention, engage at-risk youth and promote community engagement and crime prevention messages," she said.

    Crime prevention priorities include:

    • prevention and early intervention to address the needs of children and families
    • youth justice and reducing re-offending
    • preventing and responding to anti-social behaviour
    • addressing and reducing drug and alcohol-related crime
    • addressing and reducing high volume crime.

Ms Harvey said the Liberal National Government was dedicated to making our communities safer through tough laws and providing police and other organisations with the resources they needed to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
