    • $2.2 million Royalties for Regions investment in Capel Civic Precinct
    • Part of the $600 million Growing our South initiative

The Liberal National Government today announced that it has approved an investment of $2.2 million to support the final stages of the $9.3 million Capel Civic Precinct development.

Deputy Premier Liza Harvey, who joined Regional Development Minister Terry Redman in Capel today, said funding would complete a long-term strategy to enable the Capel region to take advantage of local visitor attractions and the expanding Busselton-Margaret River Regional Airport.

"The Capel region has many local visitor attractions such as Capel River, trails, wineries and eateries, coastline and beaches, Tuart forest, artisan stores and historic buildings," Ms Harvey said.

Mr Redman said the Royalties for Regions investment would allow the Shire of Capel to complete the last two stages of the project.

"The investment will support the delivery of a 752sqm multipurpose complex that will house meeting rooms, exhibition and conference spaces, training rooms, a professional standard kitchen for classes and functions, offices, electrical car charging points and an activity room/workshop," he said.

"The project will also include a 150sqm youth space plus a half-court basketball court, town square and a 1,000 person-capacity amphitheatre and stage.

"This project is expected to help strengthen and diversify the region's economy and attract more people to the town.

"The Capel Civic Precinct is being supported through the $600 million Royalties for Regions Growing our South initiative, which has funded many transformational South-West projects including the Busselton-Margaret River Regional Airport, Margaret River Perimeter Road and the Bunbury Waterfront."

The Capel Civic Precinct development project builds on more than eight years of planning and more than $2.1 million of investment over the past three years, including more than $1.8 million invested by the Shire of Capel in civil works and public amenities.
