    • Applications for the Dr Louisa Alessandri Research Grant now open
    • $30,000 for research that will produce positive outcomes for people with disability

Applications for the Disability Services Commission's third annual Dr Louisa Alessandri Research Grant are now open to individuals and organisations with proposals for projects that aim to have positive, practical outcomes for people with disability.

Disability Services Minister Donna Faragher said the $30,000 grant was designed to support research that furthers the Liberal National Government's goal of creating inclusive communities that welcome people of all abilities.

Earlier this year, the second research grant was awarded to Curtin University of Technology, for research into how smartphones could be used to navigate urban spaces.

The late Dr Alessandri had personal experience of living with disability but had not allowed it to define her.

"She was a renowned child health researcher in Western Australia, committed to improving the lives of people with disability, and she also made a major contribution to the sector as a Disability Services Commission board member," Mrs Faragher said.

"The grant will be awarded to a person or organisation whose project uses evidence-based research to create positive opportunities and outcomes for people with disability."
