New era for parenting services in WA

    21/12/2016 2:00 PM
    • State-wide parenting services for parents with children aged 0-18 years old
    • More than $8.6 million invested by the Liberal National Government

Services for Western Australian parents will be universally accessible and flexible to parents' needs, under a new model introduced by the Liberal National Government.

Community Services Minister Paul Miles today announced the results of a State-wide tendering process for parenting services from six community service providers.

"The State Government is investing in these services to ensure that all parents in WA have access to the assistance they require, when they need it most," Mr Miles said.

"A significant focus during the tendering process has been placed on appointing services that are best-placed to address local needs.  Services have been appointed to every metropolitan and country region of WA, which is a significant improvement on current arrangements.

"This is a long-term solution, with new contracts in place from April 2017 for five years and an increase in funding to more than $5.6 million per year to support the new services.

"Parenting isn't easy and the new services will enable parents to manage the challenges of parenting, build knowledge, skills and confidence to understand their children's development."

The Minister said the new model would also ensure services would be more responsive to changing community needs and demographics, and available to parents who required different methods of support.

"I am looking forward to seeing these services roll-out across the State next year, and I would like to commend the community sector for their input into the process," Mr Miles said.
