    • Another major election commitment delivered

The Liberal National Government has again confirmed its commitment to making communities safer by delivering on its election commitment for a new Cockburn Central Police Station.

Premier Colin Barnett joined Deputy Premier and Police Minister Liza Harvey today to tour the facility, which ensured the rapidly growing southern metropolitan region had the police resources it needed.

Mr Barnett said the new state-of-the-art Cockburn police station was the jewel in the crown of a $116 million project to build new and refurbished police stations across Western Australia.

"The Liberal National Government has showcased a commitment to making communities safer through tough laws and providing police with the resources they need to combat crime and anti-social behaviour," the Premier said.

Ms Harvey said the Cockburn police station could accommodate up to 200 police officers.

"The new station recognises Cockburn is a thriving hub of the metropolitan area, and will deliver a modern police facility which will cope with future growth," she said.

The Cockburn station would also include:

    • short-term custodial facilities
    • a detainee processing area
    • two cells
    • interview rooms
    • gym and modern facilities for officers.

"This will be a significant upgrade from the old facility with a capacity to accommodate four times as many officers from a range of policing areas including district management, local policing teams and response teams," the Deputy Premier said.
