- Margaret River Senior High School to receive $30 million upgrade
- Investment will deliver 22 new classrooms and suite of specialist facilities
Margaret River Senior High School will receive new classrooms and high-quality specialist facilities worth $30 million, the Liberal National Government announced today.
Education Minister Peter Collier said the investment would see the school's capacity increase to cater for 1,200 students in permanent facilities by 2020.
"Margaret River Senior High School has become increasingly popular, and transportable classrooms have been required to cater for this surge in demand," Mr Collier said.
The first stage of works will include a double-storey building with 16 classrooms, inclusive education classroom, staff study, toilets and storage; a science building with five laboratories, preparation areas; and a sports hall, fitness centre and change rooms.
More facilities will be added in Stage 2 to the school's administration and student services areas, and two sports hard courts will be re-located.
The Minister said architects would be appointed to begin planning in early 2017, with the new facilities expected to be completed for the 2020 school year.
"The State Government is committed to providing outstanding education facilities right around Western Australia," he said.
"Since 2009, we have spent $2.8 billion on 32 new primary schools, nine new secondary schools, 15 replacement schools, 1,424 new classrooms in other schools, and a host of upgrades to laboratories and workshops."
