    • Elizabeth Quay's newest attraction, a hand-made Venetian carousel, opens
    • Perth's first Royal Croquet Club continues to prove popular

Premier Colin Barnett today visited Elizabeth Quay to mark the official opening of the new Venetian carousel.

The traditional fairground ride, brought to Perth by local businessman Rohan Milne, has a combination of horses and carriages and is entirely hand-painted, featuring Venetian artworks on its internal panels.  It has been created by European artisans and is set to traditional and modern carousel music.

Mr Barnett said he was pleased to be part of the precinct's first full summer season, welcoming the new Elizabeth Quay carousel, the return of BHP Billiton Water Park, and an exciting events schedule.

"The people of Perth and West Australian families have embraced Elizabeth Quay.  Its popularity has exceeded our expectations, with more than five million visitors to date," he said.

"Elizabeth Quay is now well established as one of the State's top tourist and events destinations.  Strong vision and investment from the Liberal National Government has created a top tourism attraction that will promote Perth to a global visitor market, and provide economic benefits for many years to come."

Planning Minister Donna Faragher said the Quay was a must-visit destination over summer with a busy events and activities calendar.

"The Royal Croquet Club along with Chevron Festival Gardens will entertain audiences throughout summer; it is amazing to see how far Perth's festival scene has grown over a few short years," Mrs Faragher said.

"The Embargo container bar is already back in full swing joining the diverse range of new and established restaurants, bars and cafes that offer great waterfront dining experiences."

A number of activities will run throughout summer including Adventure Mini Golf, the seasonal mooring of the Duyfken and river cruises.
