The Liberal National Government has today announced the appointment of two new members to the board of Horizon Power.

Energy Minister Mike Nahan said Mr Neil Thompson and Professor Jeanette Hacket AM had started their respective two and one-year appointments.

Dr Nahan said Mr Thompson and Professor Hacket had both served on a number of corporate and community boards, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the positions.

"I congratulate Mr Thompson and Professor Hacket on their appointment and I am confident they will add significant value to Horizon Power," the Minister said.

"Given Professor Hacket has been a university leader and legal academic for more than 30 years and Mr Thompson has extensive experience in customer and corporate strategy and business development, I am pleased they will share their expertise, experience and knowledge with Horizon Power.

"Horizon Power is undertaking rapid change and continuing to prove it is a world leader in emerging technologies, particularly in its development of microgrids in regional Western Australia."

Professor Hacket, previously Curtin University's Vice-Chancellor, has served on a number of community boards, including as a council member of the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry and chairwoman of the Australian Technology Network group of universities.

Mr Thompson has led two of Australia's biggest, most profitable customer loyalty businesses, the Qantas Frequent Flyer and Virgin Australia's Velocity programs.

Dr Nahan thanked outgoing board members Ms Lynne Craigie and Mr Ron Johnston for their contribution over five years of service.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise the significant contribution made by Ms Craigie and Mr Johnston, and thank them both for their hard work," he said.
