    • Dr Adam Tomison appointed for a five-year term

Attorney General Michael Mischin today announced the appointment of Dr Adam Tomison as the new Director General of the Department of the Attorney General.

The Liberal National Government endorsed Dr Tomison to the role for a five-year term and the appointment was approved on November 22, 2016 by Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC, Governor of Western Australia, in Executive Council.

Dr Tomison is currently working as a consultant to the child protection and justice sector and was previously the director and chief executive of the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC).

Mr Mischin said Dr Tomison's knowledge and experience in the justice and criminology sectors would be invaluable in overseeing the department, which manages Western Australia's extensive court system.

"Dr Tomison is an internationally recognised expert in the field of violence prevention and has well established credentials as a strong organisational leader, having successfully led the AIC through a number of reforms to improve its operations," the Attorney General said.

"He is an experienced public servant who has worked with indigenous communities on health, welfare and justice issues, which will serve him well in his new role, particularly as the Liberal National Government implements a raft of measures to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginals in incarceration."

Dr Tomison holds a Bachelor of Science, Honours in Psychology and a Doctorate in Philosophy.

He will begin his new role on December 12, 2016.
