Nedlands-based research and development company, Proteomics International Laboratories, won top honours at the Western Australian Industry and Export Awards 2016 held last night.

The life sciences company secured the WA Exporter of the Year Award along with the Health and Biotechnology award for outstanding international success.

Commerce Minister Michael Mischin congratulated the winners in 17 categories, and said the hard work and innovation of these companies was creating jobs and growing the local economy.

"Western Australia boasts a diverse economy and the range of award winners reflects the breadth of industries in this State," Mr Mischin said.

"The awards recognise the success of local companies in international industries such as environmental solutions, digital technologies, agribusiness and manufacturing.

"Proteomics International is an industry leader in contracting analytical services along with the discovery and use of human, plant and animal biomarkers.

"In the past year, Proteomics has seen significant growth in international interest for its analytical service contracts, especially from India, where it has appointed a new regional sales manager.

"The firm's diagnostic business has progressed significantly in Japan, China and the United States of America, and is in the advanced stages of commercialising and out-licensing its PromakerD test."

The Minister said the WA Industry and Export Awards 2016 highlighted the outstanding success of WA businesses and ensured they received recognition for their achievements.

"This year's award winners have made a tremendous contribution towards the State's growth and economic diversity and it's important to acknowledge their participation in global markets," he said.

The Western Australian award winners become automatic finalists in the national export awards on November 24, 2016.
