Driving efficiency and red tape cuts in tax collection

    • Self-assessment saves time and money for taxpayers
    • Ability for more complex dutiable transactions to be self-assessed

Finance Minister Sean L'Estrange today announced further streamlining of the State's online revenue collection application, Revenue Online.

"State Revenue has been focused on moving an increasing number of duties assessments into the digital world," Mr L'Estrange said.

"With these developments, more than half of the State's transfer duty is collected using digital systems co-designed with users to leverage standard settlement timeframes and processes."

A tax agent using Revenue Online can also self-assess more complex transactions immediately, compared with delays of up to two months that could occur with paper documents being lodged with State Revenue for assessment.

By taking a customer-focused approach and including stakeholder feedback as part of the design and implementation process, the online enhancements by State Revenue offer more tailored user solutions and faster assessment speeds.

"By better meeting user expectations, State Revenue has been able to deliver online processing efficiencies to agents and the general public while cutting red tape, saving considerable time and money," the Minister said.

"Up to 90 per cent of approved transactions are now being self-assessed online, indicating positive stakeholder adoption of the new online capability, and improved timeliness in the assessment of transactions.

"This is another example of the Liberal National Government's commitment to finding innovative solutions to cut red tape in the collection of State taxes, while ensuring accountability and transparency is not compromised."
