Agreement for Lease signed with Primewest for the provision of 9,600sqm of new office space in Joondalup
Construction expected to start in October 2016, creating about 340 jobs
More than 800 public servants to relocate to Joondalup by early 2019
Premier Colin Barnett today announced the Liberal National Government had signed an Agreement for Lease with Primewest to build about 9,600 square metres of new office space in Joondalup.
More than 800 public servants from the departments of Water and Environment Regulation and the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority will be moving into the newly constructed premises by early 2019.
"Today the Government is fulfilling a 2013 election promise to support the growth of urban office precincts," Mr Barnett said.
"With the construction of this eight-storey building expected to generate about 340 jobs, the City of Joondalup will see economic benefits from the start of construction in October and an ongoing stimulus once public servants relocate.
"The building's proximity to Joondalup train station and bus stops, coupled with the modern end of trip facilities that are planned for the building, provides numerous transport options for staff."
Finance Minister Bill Marmion said the Government's decentralisation policy aimed to save taxpayers' funds through lower rents and supported the growth of urban office precincts.
"Proposals have been received from building owners and developers in Fremantle, and the Government is actively pursuing an outcome that will deliver further value to taxpayers," Mr Marmion said.
"This week, the first sod was turned at the location of the new Department of Parks and Wildlife headquarters in Bunbury."
The Government has successfully negotiated a 15-year lease, with two extra five-year options at a highly competitive rate
The building will offer modern end of trip facilities, ICT and an interior designed to specifically meet the needs of the three agencies
The new office space will be located at 8 Davidson Terrace, Joondalup
