Regional Development Minister Terry Redman today announced the successful grant recipients of the Great Southern region's Community Chest Fund, made possible by the Liberal National Government's Royalties for Regions program.

Mr Redman said the fund provided one-off grants to community groups, local governments and not-for-profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.

"The Community Chest Fund provides voluntary organisations, educational institutions and community organisations with grants of up to $50,000 to support local projects," he said.

"Included in this round is $50,000 to Denmark Tourism Inc to help fund the Taste Great Southern food and wine festival in 2017 and 2018, and $18,500 to Frankland River Country Club to fund the refurbishment of the club's kitchen.

"The Shire of Kojonup will receive $40,000 to develop a plan to help boost tourism for the Kodja Place precinct and the Albany Mountain Bike Club has been granted $20,000 towards the 2016 Southern MTB festival."

The Minister said the fund supported region-specific priorities driven by local communities to develop infrastructure, services and community projects that helped build vibrant regions with strong economies.

"These projects will help to attract investment, increase job opportunities and improve the quality of life for communities in the Great Southern region," he said.

"Hundreds of diverse projects and organisations across regional WA have significantly benefited from the Community Chest Fund in recent years."

Western Australia's nine regional development commissions oversee the projects, each being allocated an equal share from which to provide the Community Chest Fund grants.

The Liberal National Government, through the Royalties for Regions program, has invested $10 million into the fund over the next four years.
