    • Training infrastructure to improve support services for students and community

The Liberal National Government has announced construction is expected to start later this year on a new interactive hub for students at Central Regional TAFE's Geraldton campus, with funding allocated in the 2016-17 State Budget.

Deputy Premier and Training and Workforce Development Minister Liza Harvey said the hub would be a contemporary, high-quality learning support facility to meet the needs of students throughout the Mid-West region.

Mrs Harvey said $1.8 million was allocated in the 2016-17 State Budget to complete the funding commitment for the $2.7 million project.  A total of $2 million of this was from the State Government's Royalties for Regions program.

"The hub is part of a wider campus strategy to promote shared learning experiences, socialisation and positive engagement of students and staff in campus life," she said.

"The hub will be a 'one-stop-shop' for student advisory and support services, course and careers information, and library and learning resource services.  It will provide a connection between formal learning undertaken in classrooms and the informal, self-directed learning which is increasingly sought by students."

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the contemporary learning environment would support innovative and flexible training delivery to encourage greater student participation.

"This Royalties for Regions investment will contribute towards a vibrant and engaged workforce that can capitalise on the projected growth in regional employment," Mr Redman said.

"Royalties for Regions is building regional Western Australia's economic sustainability and I look forward to seeing the benefits in our regional communities."
