Forestry Minister Mia Davies today welcomed the appointment of Stuart West as general manager of the Forest Products Commission (FPC), who will commence in the role on June 20, 2016.
"Stuart brings with him a wealth of government forestry experience, having held the executive responsibility for the forestry portfolio in the South Australian government over the past 12 years," Ms Davies said.
"He has a genuine commitment to the Australian forestry industry, with broad experience in national and international matters, and I look forward to working with him to advance the State's forest and wood products industry."
Mr West said he was honoured to have the opportunity to work with stakeholders to foster new opportunities and encourage new investment to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of forestry in Western Australia.
The Minister said it was a positive time for the Western Australian forestry, both with Mr West's appointment and the Liberal National Government working directly with the industry on long-term plans through the recently established Forest Industry Working Group, chaired by Parliamentary Secretary Vince Catania.
Ms Davies thanked Gavin Butcher, the acting general manager, for leading the commission while the recruitment process was under way.
