Lotterywest grant of $5.26 million supported the building's construction
Premier Colin Barnett today officially opened the new Centrecare building in Midland, made possible with the support of a $5.26 million Lotterywest grant.
The new building will provide a hub to support families, individuals and young people in Midland and surrounding areas accessing vital social services.
Mr Barnett said the building would enable the organisation to deliver professional social services in the north-east metropolitan region.
"The establishment of a modern social service centre in Midland will ensure the local community is able to access important services including counselling, family and adolescent mediation, family therapy and support programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders," he said.
Centrecare has been operating in Western Australia since the 1940s and offers community services including professional counselling, support, mediation and training.
In order to maximise immediate benefits to the local community, other complementary service providers will be housed in the building.
"Centrecare has shown foresight by creating a building which will bring together local service providers, making it easier for people to access a number of services in one building," the Premier said.
The building will also provide training and meeting rooms which will be available for use by local organisations.
Mr Barnett said the building demonstrated Centrecare's commitment to Midland as a growing urban centre and the wider community. It had been designed to allow for future growth and meet the growing need for support services.
