- WA Day family activities and State of the Art music festival draw thousands
- More community events and food and beverage outlets set to land at Elizabeth Quay
More than 15,000 people are expected to visit Perth's newest major tourism precinct Elizabeth Quay today to enjoy a range of free family entertainment in celebration of WA Day.
Planning Minister Donna Faragher said the precinct's public open spaces and facilities, views across the Swan River and central business district location provided a world-class venue for major social and cultural events.
"Elizabeth Quay continues to grow as Western Australia's premier tourism development and as a highly sought-after waterfront community and premier events venue," Mrs Faragher said.
"The large number of visitors to the quay today and over this long weekend will boost total visitor numbers to date to more than two million people since the precinct opened in January this year."
The Minister said the WA Day festivities at Elizabeth Quay were one of the largest events held at the quay this year and followed the highly successful Perth International Arts Festival, Fringe World Festival and the Night Noodle Markets.
Future events at Elizabeth Quay will include the Swan Festival of Lights and the World Masters Athletics Championships welcoming ceremony, featuring thousands of athletes from around the globe.
Existing food and beverage offerings will also be expanded, with Gusto Gelato ready to host their official opening next Friday and Isle of Voyage set to open their doors soon at the Florence Hummerston Kiosk.
"In the lead-up to summer, there will be a raft of activities at Elizabeth Quay in terms of major public and community events, supported by new and exciting food and beverage outlets opening up in the precinct," Mrs Faragher said.
"Elizabeth Quay's city riverside location, its flexibility as an event and recreation space, and access to public transport is certainly contributing to its success as an emerging major tourism attraction for Western Australia."
