    • Wheelchair Sports WA Association receive $209,617 Lotterywest grant
    • Funding supports business development and sustainability

An upgraded IT system and business development initiatives funded by a Lotterywest grant of $209,617 will ensure the long-term sustainability of the Wheelchair Sports WA Association, Disability Services Minister Donna Faragher said today.

At a presentation event at Mirrabooka's Herb Graham Recreation Centre, Mrs Faragher said the grant would support initiatives to better manage funding streams and expand awareness of the organisation's reach across the community.

"Wheelchair Sports WA Association is much more than a sports club," she said.

"The organisation now offers its members and the public a very broad range of programs and services.

"The business development initiatives reflect the organisation's move into other fields, such as social inclusion; education; recreation and other non-sporting areas, and accounts for about 65 per cent of the work the organisation undertakes.

"This Lotterywest grant will enable the organisation to reposition itself to better reflect this important role and direction."

Wheelchair Sports WA Association will install a fundraising and customer relations IT system to help better manage funding streams.

"This IT upgrade will also support timely, accountable operations for what is one of WA's biggest disability recreation and sporting groups," the Minister said.

Established in 1989, Wheelchair Sports WA Association currently has more than 580 members involved in a range of activities and sports including basketball, rugby, athletics and tennis.
