Commerce Minister Michael Mischin today presented Busselton Water with a WorkSafe Plan Gold Certificate of Achievement for its workplace health and safety management.
Busselton Water is a Liberal National Government entity which obtains groundwater from two aquifers then treats it before distributing it to residential and land developer customers.
In presenting the certificate to the chair of Busselton Water's board of directors, Helen Shervington, Mr Mischin congratulated Busselton Water on achieving Gold status at its first WorkSafe Plan assessment.
"Work safety is in everyone's interest. No workplace can be guaranteed to be hazard-free, but sustained commitment from both management and staff can minimise risks and prevent injuries," the Minister said.
"Busselton Water is developing a strong safety culture in management and employees, and I congratulate them on their achievement."
WorkSafe Plan Certificates of Achievement at Silver, Gold and Platinum levels are awarded to organisations which, under independent assessment, achieve the required levels in five elements of safety management and/or demonstrate low or reduced levels of work-related injury and disease.
The five key areas are:
- management commitment to a safe and healthy work environment
- occupational safety and health policies, plans and procedures
- consultation between employers and employees
- systems to identify workplace hazards and to assess and control risks
- safety and health training for staff at all levels.
