Western Australian consumers and businesses are being urged to take part in a national review of the Australian Consumer Law.
The review is being carried out by consumer protection agencies through Consumer Affairs Australia and New Zealand, and an issues paper has been released.
Commerce Minister Michael Mischin encouraged Western Australian consumers, businesses and other interested groups to have their say by putting in a submission.
"The Australian Consumer Law, which deals with unfair trading, covers many areas including consumer guarantees, door-to-door trading and unsafe products. All will be scrutinised in this review," Mr Mischin said.
"The trading marketplace in Australia is dynamic and evolving, so we need to ensure our consumer laws are still relevant and effective. They also need to be flexible and responsive to any new or emerging issues.
"The Australian Consumer Law was introduced in 2011 and brought national harmony to State-based consumer laws, however it must now be reviewed to ensure they continue to provide consumers and businesses with appropriate rights, protections and obligations into the future.
"The Issues Paper can be downloaded online and seeks views on where the law is operating satisfactorily, as well as where it can be improved."
