    • Flights start on the Albany and Esperance air routes tomorrow
    • Rex to fly from Perth to Albany 23 times a week
    • Rex to fly from Perth to Esperance 18 times a week

Regional Express (Rex) will tomorrow start air services from Perth to Albany and Perth to Esperance as part of a five-year agreement to provide regulated air services on the two air routes.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said it was exciting to see such a highly regarded and experienced regional airline entering the Western Australian aviation market.

"They will provide air services to Albany and Esperance which will benefit locals in those areas, as well as tourists and business people visiting the regions," Mr Nalder said.

"Residents in these regional communities will benefit from Rex's timetables which will see an increased number of flights and annual seat capacity when flying to and from Perth, compared with previous services to those regions.

"Rex's timetable will allow residents more time in Perth to do what they need to do and be home by 9pm the same day.

"I am pleased the State Government's decision to appoint Rex will result in quality services for West Australians."

Rex's Albany service includes an increase in the number of flights to Albany, with the annual passenger seat capacity increasing from 72,000 to 81,000.  There will be an increased frequency of air services to Albany of 53 per cent from 15 services to 23 services a week.

"Rex has a proven history of growing the number of regional air routes and passengers on regional air routes through strong engagement with the community, business and the tourism industry," the Minister said

From tomorrow, Rex will operate on the two regulated air routes until 2021, subject to a mid-term review of airline performance.

The Department of Transport will continue to monitor operations of the routes and engage with regional stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure long-term sustainable, flexible and high-quality transport options continue on the regional routes.

Reservations for the Albany and Esperance flights can be made at http://www.rex.com.au, by phoning 13 17 13 or through a travel agent.
