Legal practitioner Michael Gething has been appointed as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia.
Attorney General Michael Mischin said Mr Gething already had significant experience working in both the District and Supreme courts and was highly regarded among his legal peers.
Mr Gething obtained a Bachelor of Laws at The University of Western Australia in 1989.
From 1990 to 1994, he worked at Freehill, Hollingdale & Page, initially as an articled clerk, then as a restricted practitioner and finally as a solicitor specialising in civil litigation.
Mr Gething was admitted as a barrister and solicitor for the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia in 1991.
From 1994 to 2004, he worked at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission as a solicitor.
In 2004, Mr Gething was appointed as the Principal Registrar of the District Court of Western Australia, serving in that role until 2013.
During this time, he also worked as a sessional lecturer at the Australian Institute of Company Directors and as a Commissioner of the District Court of Western Australia.
Since 2014, Mr Gething has served in the role of Principal Registrar of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
