- Colin Pettit appointed for a five-year term
Attorney General Michael Mischin today announced the appointment of Colin Pettit as the new Commissioner for Children and Young People.
Mr Mischin said Mr Pettit was selected as the most suitable candidate for the role of commissioner following a national extensive recruitment process.
"Mr Pettit brings a significant range of knowledge, skills and experience to the position of commissioner, which is focused on improving the wellbeing of children and young people, particularly indigenous, vulnerable and disadvantaged children," he said.
Mr Pettit returns to Western Australia after completing a four and a half year stint as Secretary of Education for the Department of Education in Tasmania.
Prior to that, he was the executive director of regional and remote schools for the Department of Education in WA and president of the Western Australian Primary Principals' Association and Australian Government Primary Principals Association.
The Attorney General extended his sincere thanks to Jennifer Perkins for her recent work in the role of Commissioner for Children and Young People.
Mr Pettit will formally start in the role of commissioner on November 16, 2015.
