Act now for Tropical Cyclone Olwyn recovery

    • Grants of up to $25,000 available in shires of Carnarvon, Exmouth, Shark Bay and part of Ashburton
    • Applications, which must be lodged online, close on September 12

Primary producers impacted by ex-Severe Tropical Cyclone Olwyn are reminded that applications for disaster recovery assistance close this Saturday.

Agriculture and Food Minister Ken Baston said many producers in Carnarvon and surrounding areas who suffered damage in March had accessed the scheme to help recovery efforts.

"Grants of up to $25,000 for the clean-up and immediate restoration costs are available to eligible primary producers who have suffered direct damage as a result of the cyclone," Mr Baston said.

"There has been significant interest in the scheme. To date, about $700,000 has been provided to more than 50 eligible applicants and more applications are being assessed."

The assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

Grants are available to primary producers in the local government areas of Carnarvon, Exmouth and Shark Bay, and a defined area within Ashburton, west of the North West Coastal Highway.

The Minister said the cyclone took its toll on horticultural crops in Carnarvon and pastoral properties in the region.

"For many of these producers, recovery is a lengthy process and is still under way six months after the event," he said.
