- Support for WA agrifood businesses to pursue Asian markets
- Made possible by the State Government's Royalties for Regions program
The State Government today announced a $6 million project to support Western Australian agrifood businesses to pursue growing markets in Asia.
Agriculture and Food Minister Ken Baston said the Asian Market Success project would provide market and trade intelligence along with supply chain support to agrifood businesses seeking export opportunities.
"Asian Market Success takes a new approach to realising export opportunities by aligning WA agrifood businesses with targeted markets to become preferred suppliers of premium quality food," Mr Baston said.
"This will provide exporters with the confidence to invest in Asian markets, together with support to adopt new business models to enable their businesses to grow, diversify and achieve their ambitions."
The project will also fund agrifood trade officers in key markets and provide $3 million worth of grants to help agrifood businesses to capture market opportunities.
"The grants will help agrifood businesses to work with partners from key markets to develop new and existing export channels through improved supply chains, new business models, trade and market development and business improvements," Mr Baston said.
The project will complement the State Government's $300 million Seizing the Opportunity Agriculture initiative, made possible by Royalties for Regions.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the strategic Royalties for Regions investment would create an expanded and sustainable agriculture and food sector in regional Western Australia.
"Asian Market Success will provide a platform for our export market to remain internationally competitive," Mr Redman said.
"This will contribute to a strengthened regional economy and I look forward to seeing the considerable flow-on benefits in our communities."
