    • Forums focus on latest in sheep industry
    • Regional Sheep Updates to be held from July 27-30

Representatives from the sheep industry will come together in July at the Regional Sheep Updates to discuss the future for the sector and examine the latest research and market trends.

Agriculture and Food Minister Ken Baston said the forums provided an opportunity for producers, investors, consultants and researchers to share information to help build the State's wool and sheep meat industries.

"Registrations are now open to secure a place at this premier sheep and wool industry event, hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Food," Mr Baston said.

"Topics will include the economics of feedlotting, lifetime ewe management, optimising pastures to maximise profit and genomics - what it is and how it can improve genetic gain.

"The latest sheep production research and development will also be available."

Regional Sheep Updates are being delivered by the department's $10 million Sheep Industry Business Innovation project, made possible by the State Government's Royalties for Regions program.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said Royalties for Regions was investing in the future of Western Australia's sheep industry to capitalise on rising global demand.

"I encourage all those in the sheep industry to attend the forums, get empowered and deliver greater transformational change in our regions," Mr Redman said.

"Strengthening regional communities where agrifood is a major economic activity will build sustainability for regional Western Australia."

Updates will be held at Moora (July 27), Merredin (July 28), Katanning (July 29) and Ravensthorpe (July 30).

Guest speakers include Chris Wilcox, a leading analyst and commentator on the global wool industry; Geoff Lindon (Australian Wool Innovation); Lynne Bradshaw (RSPCA); Hayley Norman (CSIRO) and Ben Patrick, a Peter Westblade Scholar who will give his perspective on the challenges and opportunities for young people in the sheep industry.
