Ellenbrook was recognised as the world's best master-planned community at an international awards ceremony held Saturday night in Kuala Lumpur.
Already Australia's most awarded urban development project, Ellenbrook received the FIABCI (The International Real Estate Federation) World Prix d'Excellence Award for 2015.
Housing Minister Colin Holt said the honour further validated the State Government's approach of partnering with the private sector to successfully integrate social and affordable housing into vibrant, active and diverse communities.
"This development with LWP Property Group pioneered partnerships between the Government and the private sector in this area," Mr Holt said.
"The ability of the Government and its partners to work together during the 20 years of this project demonstrates how it is possible to align private sector investment principles with quality urban design and Government social policy objectives.
"The result is a world class master-planned community with numerous awards to its name."
Ellenbrook is designed to provide housing and associated education, recreation, retail and community facilities for up to 35,000 residents.
"Ellenbrook has consistently been one of the country's fastest selling residential estates during its 20-year life to date," the Minister said.
"It is an industry leader in urban planning, creation of affordable housing, environmental sustainability, and neighbourhood and community development."
Development of Ellenbrook started in 1994, based on a design defined by the creation of eight distinct neighbourhoods with a vibrant town centre at its heart.
Ellenbrook and The Vines had a population of 31,173 as of June 30, 2011. The City of Swan estimates this will increase to 44,185 by 2021
Land development at Ellenbrook has contributed significantly to the Government's Affordable Housing Strategy which aims for a minimum of 20,000 new affordable housing opportunities by 2020
The International Real Estate Federation is a federation of 100 national real estate associations and real estate professionals in 60 countries
