- Emma Gaunt appointed as environmental Appeals Convenor
Environment Minister Albert Jacob today announced the appointment of Emma Gaunt as the State's new Appeals Convenor.
The role provides independent advice and makes recommendations to the Minister on environmental appeals under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
Mr Jacob said Ms Gaunt would bring a wealth of experience in environmental approvals and management, in both the private and public sectors, to the role.
"The Appeals Convenor provides the vital checks and balances which are necessary for the environmental appeals process under the requirements of the Act," he said.
Ms Gaunt's experience will enable her to act very effectively in this important role, independently assessing the merits of each appeal according to the principles of equity and good conscience."
The Appeals Convenor considers and makes recommendations to the Minister on appeals against decisions made by the Department of Environment Regulation and the Environmental Protection Authority on a range of environmental matters, including environmental impact assessments, permits for clearing native vegetation and conditions applying to certain industrial and commercial premises.
The Minister thanked outgoing convenor Kelly Faulkner for her commitment to the role during her three-year tenure.
