- Heather Brayford has been appointed Director General
Fisheries Minister Ken Baston today announced that the Department of Fisheries will be in good hands following the appointment of a new Director General.
"Her Excellency, the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO, Governor of Western Australia, in Executive Council has approved the appointment of Ms Heather Brayford to the position of Director General of the Department of Fisheries," Mr Baston said.
Having acted in the position since late 2014, Ms Brayford's appointment will be for a period of five years.
"An independent recruitment and selection process for the role was conducted by the Public Sector Commission," the Minister said.
Mr Baston said Ms Brayford had previously held senior roles in the Department of Fisheries, including Director, Aquatic Management and Deputy Director General from 2011.
"She brings almost 30 years of experience in fisheries management, having held a number of senior policy and management positions in the department and as the Executive Director of Fisheries in the Northern Territory," he said.
Ms Brayford holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration.
"I look forward to working with her in ensuring our State's aquatic resources and habitats are maintained for the benefit of present and future generations," the Minister said.
Ms Brayford was appointed Director, Aquatic Management in 2009 and became Deputy Director General in 2011. Her position includes responsibility for fisheries management programs, broader environmental management programs, aquaculture and the provision of legal, legislative drafting and governance services
