West Australians will have the opportunity to view some of the State's most inspiring and thought provoking visual artists as part of the new WA Focus series opening at the Art Gallery of WA today.
The series debuts with the works of local brothers, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah and Abdul Abdullah. The exhibition provides a glimpse into the different experiences each brother had growing up pre and post September 11, 2001.
It explores themes of cultural identity, memory and narrative through sculpture, installations and interdisciplinary work.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the new program provided visitors with the opportunity to engage with exhibitions displaying the range and depth of our State's talented artists.
"This series demonstrates the Art Gallery's commitment to presenting high quality works from emerging and established West Australian artists," Mr Day said.
The Art Gallery of WA is working closely with West Australian artists to represent the variety of approaches to art practices that shape cultural life.
The brothers' works will be on display until July 27 and will be followed by works from WA artist Helen Smith in mid-August.
Upcoming WA Focus programming include Proximity Festival and photography from Graham Miller.
The works of Abdul-Rahman Abdullah and Abdul Abdullah are on display at the Art Gallery of WA from April 22-July 27, 2015
A free artist talk from the Abdullah brothers will be held on Saturday, May 2
