The State Government’s Your Move program, which connects people with alternative transport options and sporting groups, will be introduced in the City of Wanneroo early next year after a successful initial delivery in the City of Cockburn.
The program is a partnership between the departments of Transport and Sport and Recreation and the City of Wanneroo.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said more than 10,000 households had participated in the initial $2.1 million Cockburn program.
“This program provides personalised advice and support that helps connect people with active modes of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport use, as well as promoting participation in local sporting clubs and recreation programs,” Mr Nalder said.
“This will help reduce Perth’s reliance on cars and increase physical activity in the community, which is a win-win both for the city and for participants.”
Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the continuation of Your Move complemented existing programs such as KidSport, which provides subsidies for sporting club memberships; Nature Play; and TravelSmart Schools.
“This program, which will start in Wanneroo next year, will be useful for people who want to get off the couch and start being active, as well as for people who want to try something new like cycling to work or just generally increasing daily exercise,” Mr Waldron said.
Request for tenders the Your Move Wanneroo program closed on November 14. The contract will be awarded in January 2015.
Your Move Wanneroo will be funded by the departments of Transport and Sport and Recreation. The City of Wanneroo and RAC are also providing funding to the project
The Your Move program encourages people to switch car trips for active modes of transport and increase levels of physical activity by providing highly personalised information, feedback and phone support
