    • $773,201 towards local sport and recreation facility improvements
    • 34 ‘small grant’ projects set to benefit across WA
    • Coincides with launch of new bigger picture sport education website
More than 30 sport and recreation facilities will be built or upgraded thanks to $773,201 in grants from the State Government.

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) small grants would enable clubs and local governments to provide new or upgrade existing infrastructure to make it more accessible for sport and recreation participants.

“Grants can be up to $150,000 for bricks-and-mortar type facilities which improves functionality of these facilities and encourages people to be physically active,” Mr Waldron said.

Successful projects will include the assembly of floodlights, toilets, change rooms, upgraded playing areas and the development of a facility master plan.  Of the grants, $591,494 will be spread across 25 regional projects, and $181,707 will go towards nine metropolitan facilities.

“These grants help clubs and local governments to become hubs for local residents. Many of these places will be available throughout the year,” the Minister said.

    Highlights from this round include:
    • Esperance Football and Sporting Club: $28,000 for new change rooms and toilets
    • Forrestfield Tennis Club: $15,000 for assembly of floodlighting at two tennis courts
    • Rockingham BMX Club: $31,563 to upgrade existing track and starting area
    • Shire of Wiluna: $68,420 to upgrade two outdoor courts and cricket practice wickets
    • Shire of Dardanup: $8,067 to upgrade indoor lighting to LED at Eaton Recreation Centre.
Mr Waldron said the details of the latest round of grants coincided with the launch of a new website which aimed to inform and educate sport and recreation participants on how the Government invests in sport.

“It is just so important to fund and support grassroots sport and recreation and this is a program of which I am very proud,” he said.
