Big projects grow from small grants

    • State Government gives $723,949 towards local sport and recreation facility improvements
    • 32 projects across WA set to benefit

More than 30 community sport and recreation projects will share in $723,949 in the latest round of the State Government’s Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the grants, for projects under $150,000, could make a big difference to a community’s ability to take part in local sport and recreational activities.

“These grants can help a club or a council increase the amenity of a facility, such as the addition of floodlighting, so a space can be used at night and throughout the year,” Mr Waldron said.

Twenty-nine projects worth a total of $674,549 were approved in the small grants round with three additional applications approved for regional sports precinct master plans, totalling $49,400.

Offered twice a year, the CSRFF small grants are specifically for local sport and recreation clubs and councils requiring financial help to complete a project that might otherwise be out of reach. In this round, grants will go towards projects such as floodlighting, refurbishing toilet and changing room facilities, and upgrades to boundary fences.

“Both in the metropolitan and regional areas, these additions and improvements make facilities more accessible and attractive, which in turn encourages an active lifestyle among local residents,” the Minister said.

Of the successful projects, 19 were in regional Western Australia and 13 projects were in the Perth metropolitan area.
