    • Winter registrations are open for KidSport
    • New online registration for clubs all over WA
    • State Government assistance of up to $200 per child towards club fees

With winter sport registrations under way across a variety of clubs, Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said now was the perfect time to sign up to become a KidSport kid.

The successful program is a partnership between the State Government and local governments, which allows families to apply for financial assistance of up to $200 a year per child towards club fees.

Families with children aged 5-18 years who have a healthcare card, pension concession card or who are referred by a recognised referral agent are eligible to receive a KidSport voucher.

In a new innovation for KidSport this season, clubs can now register online which allows club volunteers to make registration more efficient and less time-consuming.

“Clubs have enthusiastically embraced the program and the Government hopes the new online registration is going to make it easier for even more clubs to become involved,” Mr Waldron said.

“Ultimately this means more kids and their parents getting involved in sport and recreation.

“As people sometimes see the cooling weather as an indicator that it’s time to hide inside, I’d like to encourage kids and their families to join a club, perhaps experience a new sport and get active.”

Since September 2011, more than 26,000 West Australians have become KidSport kids. This year, more than 4,000 vouchers have already been distributed.

“It’s really exciting to see so many children across the State getting involved in sport and recreation.  It’s even more exciting to know that almost half of these kids are joining a club for the first time,” the Minister said.

On average, about 600 vouchers are being processed each week by 126 local governments across the State in more than 80 sports and recreational pursuits.
