Eight racing clubs across Western Australia have received vital funds to help complete a range of important infrastructure works.

Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron said $163,115 had been allocated to the clubs through the latest round of the Racing Infrastructure Grants Program (RIGP).

“The RIGP assists regional and metropolitan racing clubs to complete both critical infrastructure works and works on patron facilities that will deliver significant revenue benefits back to the club,” Mr Waldron said.

“The latest round of funding brings us up to 49 clubs who have received $11.4million since the program began in 2011.

“Clubs to benefit from the latest round include the Broome Turf Club, who received $47,566 to construct new stalls and wash bays, and the Collie Race Club, who received $26,998 to rectify the kitchen and canteen facilities at the track to Occupational Health and Safety standards.”

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said racecourses did more than just bring local residents together.

“Racecourses and race days also promote tourism in the region which has a subsequent knock-on effect for the local economy,” Mr Redman said.

Grants for metropolitan venues can be for as much as 60 per cent of the total project cost up to a maximum of $500,000, while for regional facilities that figure is increased to 90 per cent of the total project cost up to a maximum of $900,000. The additional funding for regional venues has been made possible through a funding boost from the Royalties for Regions program.
